OBJECTIVES AND VISION OF THE MBLP BRANCH

Establishing the ABL characteristics and its influence on regional meteorology at different geographical and climate zones of India, with a view to improve ABL parameterization.

Understanding the of physical processes that couple surface layer to free-troposphere (including water vapour and pollutant transport and cloud development) which in turn govern regional meteorology.

Climatology of the 3-dimensional distribution of water vapour, clouds and precipitation over the tropics, their role in atmospheric thermal and dynamical processes, including unraveling the physical processes unexplored hitherto. (e.g., pool of inhibited cloudiness & its genesis, radiatively driven upper tropospheric convection).

Understanding Cloud and Water vapour feedback processes.

Development of inversion methods for satellite and ground-based microwave remote sensing for earth and planetary bodies. This also includes proposing and realizing new ISRO satellite missions on a collaborative basis.
